The Double Sovereign from the Coronation Year of George VI . . .
For the Coronation of George VI in 1937, a double sovereign (two pounds) was issued as part of a 4 coin gold sovereign proof set, following a tradition established in the early 19th century. Only 5001 sets were produced.
The two-pound coin is a plain edge proof which features the royal portrait on the obverse, with the iconic Pistrucci reverse.
