The first modern Proof Set . . .
In 1980, the Royal Mint revived the old tradition (last undertaken in 1937) of issuing a 4-coin proof set of the Sovereign, Half-Sovereign, TwoPound and Five-Pound coins.
Proof coins are highly sought-after, and the 1980 edition is a particularly important example. The obverse shows the Second Portrait of the Queen (by Arnold Machin RA), with the classic Pistrucci reverse. 22ct gold, Proof finish
